Be a Millionaire Day

I didn’t know Be a Millionaire Day existed either, but I just learned that it is May 20th every year. So of course I started thinking about how this day could tie into a benefits program.

Since most of us have open enrollment either in the fall or the beginning of the year this could be a great time to remind employees of their benefits and how they can use them to save money. Offer lunch and learns for those employees based out of an office with two or three different topics during the week. Focus on your workforce with options on retirement, ideas on starting to save and first mortgages if you have a younger group. For utility and energy companies with a large number of field staff offer the same information in a webinar or video format. The great thing with digital distribution is that spouses can sit down together to view the information.

You probably have vendors that would be willing to offer this education at no cost. If you’re looking for education on finances look into a credit union since the movement focuses a lot on financial wellness education.

If you can’t pull off lunch and learns or webinars; post an educational piece to an Intranet on the importance of saving for the unexpected with ideas on how to get started. You know what your team makes so use examples that are reasonable. Even if they have to start with $5 per pay, something is better than nothing. For those more established offer a simple reminder to re-examine retirement plans to make sure they’re on track. Show employees they can Be a Millionaire with careful planning now.

How many times a year do you talk about your benefit programs with employees?
